According to news in the morning of February 27, Beijing time, Warner Brothers Exploration (Warner Bros. Discovery) sued Paramount for infringement, believing it owns the exclusive streaming rights to South Park.

HBO Max parent Warner Brothers Discovery accuses Paramount of colluding with South Park creator and Paramount MTV to provide as much South Park content as possible to Paramount Plus in an effort to attract more viewers to the streaming platform.

In 2019, Warner Brothers explored buying the rights to "South Park" from South Park Digital Studio (South Park Digital Studios) for more than 300 episodes at a cost of about $1.6 million per episode. The South Park Digital Studio was created by Paramount in cooperation with the creators of South Park. Warner Bros. explores that Paramount violated the agreement with South Park Digital Studios.

Under the agreement, Warner Bros. Discovery plans to put the entire South Park series into HBO Max, including upcoming new content, a total of 30 episodes in 24, 25 and 26 seasons. Warner Brother Discovery claimed that South Park Digital Studios did not provide new content as promised, and that the 50-minute Paramount Special content (Pandemic Special) would cost extra.

Paramount signed a $900 million deal with South Park creators in August 2021, just months after the Paramount Plus was launched. As part of the agreement, South Park Digital Studios agreed to provide exclusive streaming "South Park" content to Paramount Plus when the HBO Max agreement expires.

The studio later produced exclusive special content for Paramount Plus, which Warner Bros. explored thought should not be included in the studio's agreement with Paramount Plus, accusing South Park Digital Studios, Paramount and MTV of playing with words and deliberately avoiding their previous obligations.

A Paramount spokesman rejected the allegations that Warner Bros. Exploration simply did not want to pay Paramount for the content that had been delivered, which is still being streamed through HBO Max.

Warner Bros. Discovery's HBO, HBO Max and Discovery Plus added 1.1 million paid subscribers in the past quarter, but the company lost $2.1 billion in that quarter. In the lawsuit, Zhonghua Brothers explore strongly advocate the importance of "South Park" to HBO Max.
