Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, February 26, CTOnews.com reported earlier this week that a Bloomberg report provides in-depth coverage of Apple's ongoing non-invasive blood glucose monitoring technology, which is carried out within Apple's mysterious exploratory design team (Exploratory Design Group,XDG). A new Bloomberg report today gives more information about the work within the XDG team.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in its latest Power On newsletter that the XDG team "operates as an Apple startup" and that the team has a total of several hundred people, mainly composed of "engineers and academics." The team works in a building called Tantau 9, just outside Apple Park.

In terms of organization, XDG essentially operates within Apple's hardware technology team led by Johny Srouji, and its day-to-day operations are led by a handful of engineers and scientists. It was previously led by Bill Arthur, a longtime "engineering researcher", but Arthur died unexpectedly at the end of 2022.

Although the team operates as a startup, it is still divided like other Apple divisions, the report said. People working on a project within a XDG are not allowed to communicate their work with other XDG members assigned to different projects. However, the members of the team are organized by skill set rather than by individual project. This means that an engineer may work on several projects that suit his or her skills, rather than on a particular product.

Bloomberg explained that XDG is currently focusing on Apple's non-invasive blood glucose monitoring technology, but there are "several other projects under way" including next-generation display technology and the AR and VR features of Apple's head that "helps people with eye diseases."

The XDG team also studied "low-power processor technology and next-generation batteries for smartphones", which was one of the reasons why the team was formed in the first place. Today's report says: "many of the chip and battery technologies developed by XDG have been used in iPhone, iPad and Mac for many years."

It is reported that Apple's XDG team has "huge financial resources and space to explore countless ideas," and what the team will bring remains to be seen.
