Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com Feb. 26 Apple is working to refine the first version of its AR / VR headset, which is expected to be released in June. A new Bloomberg report today provides some details about the features and limitations of the Reality Pro headset, including whether it requires an iPhone to work with it.

Bloomberg's Mark Gulman reports in his latest issue of Power On newsletter that the latest beta version of the Reality Pro headset "will not require an iPhone to set up or use." This is a big change from past Apple devices, such as the Apple Watch, which initially required an iPhone to initialize settings.

Instead, the Reality Pro headset will support settings independent of the iPhone, and then download user data directly from iCloud. However, similar to the setup process for other Apple devices, users can also choose to transfer data directly from the iPhone or iPad to the headset.

Unlike other AR / VR headsets on the market, Reality Pro headsets do not have remote controls, but rely on the user's eyes and hands to control them. Bloomberg said Apple was testing the "air typing" feature, but "performed very erratically in the test."

"I was told that on the latest in-house prototype, there was a key text-entry feature-air typing," Gulman says. But it's been unstable in tests. Therefore, the headset may still support the iPhone to use its touch-screen keyboard. Apple's internal goal is to make rapid improvements after the device is released. The company wants its headset to follow the same path as the original Apple Watch in this regard. "

Bloomberg said that looking ahead, Apple is developing a second generation Reality Pro headset with a special focus on performance,"I was told that the focus of the second generation Pro headset is performance. While the first generation will carry an M2 chip and an auxiliary chip for AR and VR processing, it's not powerful enough to output graphics at Apple's ideal level. Apple's first headset was originally planned to be more powerful, with a separate hub, extra processing power, and wireless transmission to devices throughout the home. But former Apple design director Jony Ive dismissed the idea. Now, the company is working to add a more powerful processor (perhaps a variant of the M3 or M4) to the second product to help bridge that gap. "

Apple's Reality Pro headset is expected to debut at WWDC in June and be available later this year, and CTOnews.com will keep an eye on it.
