CTOnews.com February 26, CTOnews.com learned from Huawei officials that today, on the eve of the opening of the 2023 World Communications Conference, Huawei announced that it had joined the UNESCO Global Literacy Alliance (GAL). Huawei and the UNESCO Institute for lifelong Learning (UIL, or GAL Secretariat) made the announcement at a digital talent summit co-hosted by both of them.

At the summit, Huawei and UIL reached a consensus to jointly promote the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) technology to improve cultural literacy. The two sides also signed a cooperation agreement. Under the agreement, Huawei will provide funding to support UIL to expand existing projects to help educators in developing countries improve their ability to use technology. So far, the project has covered Bangladesh, C ô te d'Ivoire, Egypt, Nigeria and Pakistan.

Zhang Yuan, vice president of corporate communications of Huawei, the first private company to become a member of GAL, said: "getting a good education is often the key to success in life. As a company in the technology industry that focuses on innovation and talent training, Huawei has the responsibility to cultivate the ability of people around the world to use technology and to benefit as many people as we can." She added: "We are honored to better fulfil this responsibility through cooperation with UNESCO."

Huawei believes that digital talent is a key driver of digital transformation, steady economic growth and improved quality of life. Since 2008, Huawei has implemented various talent programs, and the number of projects is still growing. Through the Future Seeds program, Huawei offers scholarships and digital training courses to tens of thousands of people of all ages every year. Huawei also organizes and sponsors science and technology competitions so that students can increase their knowledge, win awards and make new friends.

So far, Huawei's Future seed Program has helped train more than 2.2 million digital talents in more than 150 countries. Huawei ICT College can train about 200000 students a year. In 2021, Huawei announced that it had invested $150 million in digital talent development and plans to invest another $150 million by 2026, which is expected to benefit another 3 million people.
