CTOnews.com, February 26 (Xinhua) on February 17, the city of Oita in southwestern Japan conducted its first outdoor manned test flight of a flying car, which was watched by about 400 people, marking the first successful outdoor manned flight of such an aircraft approved by the Ministry of Transportation.

On February 17, the Japanese two-seater "flying car" successfully tested that the flying car rose to an altitude of about 30 meters above the ground. The "flying car" circled at a speed of 36 kilometers per hour, flying a total of 400 meters, taking three and a half minutes. The flying car, which can carry two passengers, is 5.6 meters wide, 1.7 meters high and weighs 430 kilograms.

The test was conducted by the Okayama Miami Aerospace Industry Research Association (MASC), a non-governmental organization based in Cangfu City, Okayama Prefecture, which is mainly composed of aviation and automobile-related companies to create an aerospace industry cluster.

"the flight was comfortable, there was no shaking, only a slight vibration was felt when circling," said Hiroshi Kirino, director of MASC, who took the Flying car. "it felt like being in a car, and the flight proved the safety of the vehicle."

Oita Mayor Kiichiro Sato believes that from a technical point of view, flying cars have reached the point of view that they can be put into practical use. He called for it to be available in Oita by 2025.

Japan's goal is to make its first commercial flight at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka. In addition, the Japanese government will issue a new pilot's license for "flying cars" and a mechanic's license to repair "flying cars."

CTOnews.com notes that companies not only in Japan but around the world have competed around this new direction of travel change. On the 14th local time, American airline Blade Air Mobility teamed up with Beta Technologies, the developer of the next generation sustainable Alia-250 aircraft, to conduct the first test flight of an electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. On February 22, AMSL Aero, an Australian green aerospace company, announced that its efficient long-range eVTOL aircraft Vertiia had successfully completed its first test flight.
