According to the provisions outlined in the newly enacted inflation reduction Act, car companies can receive a federal tax credit if they produce electric cars in the United States.

Audi's e-tron series of electric cars has been expanding since it was first launched in 2018, and has launched e-tron GT, e-tron S and Q4 e-tron models, as well as a number of concept models.

Since the inflation reduction Act came into effect on January 1, 2023, only one Audi electric car is eligible for a federal tax credit, but it is a plug-in model.

Last fall, Oliver Hoffman, Audi's chief technology officer, predicted that the new bill would have a "significant impact" on Audi's North American strategy, while Audi is considering building its first electric vehicle production facility in the US.

Recently, Audi CEO expressed a similar view, even proposing an additional business focus to bring Audi electric car production to the United States more quickly.

Markus Duesmann, Audi's chief executive, said in a recent interview with the German newspaper Frankfurt that the stricter provisions of the new law made the prospect of electric car production in the US "very attractive".

When it comes to building a plant in the United States, Duesmann says this is just one of the options under consideration. Another option is to work with its parent company, Volkswagen Group, (CTOnews.com Note: Volkswagen already has its own production base in the United States and is trying to build more bases.

In addition, there is news that Volkswagen's Scout brand electric cars will be produced at a new plant in the United States, but the exact location has not yet been determined, but Automobilwoche, which reported the news, said that the new U.S. plant will also be used to produce Audi electric models, although Audi CEO said it has not yet made a decision.

Volkswagen currently has an ID.4 electric car assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and two plants in Mexico, and the company plans to produce electric car engines and other components by 2025. In addition, Audi also has a production base in Mexico, where the company is currently producing Q5 and other models.
