CTOnews.com, February 25 (Xinhua)-- HMD Global has announced its decision to produce 5G Nokia smartphones in Europe, becoming the first major smartphone manufacturer to do so.

The transfer of 5G Nokia smartphone manufacturing to Europe will be a gradual process, which will begin in the third quarter of 2023. HMD plans to invest in facilities from now on.

HMD sees growing demand for its smartphones in Europe and sees the move as a way to reduce its carbon footprint and ensure the security and privacy of its phones. HMD noted that data centers in Finland have been used since 2019.
