CTOnews.com, February 25, astronomers have used the Keck Observatory (W. M. Keck Observatory) to observe a cloud called X7 near the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky way Galaxy for more than 20 years.

Astronomers believe that the X7 cluster will eventually be pulled toward Sagittarius A* and will "trigger some fireworks" after being swallowed by a supermassive black hole.

Recent high-resolution observations show that X7 has been stretched to 3000 astronomical units (the average distance between the sun and the earth). Astronomers expect the cloud of matter to be torn apart by the gravitational tidal forces of the black hole when it is closest to the black hole in 2036.

Anna Ciurlo, an assistant researcher and leader at the University of California, Los Angeles, said they thought it was a unique opportunity to see the tidal forces of A* Sagittarius at high resolution and to gain insight into "the physics of the extreme environment of the Milky way Center."

CTOnews.com learned from the report that the X7 has a mass of about 50 Earths and that the orbital path around the A* Sagittarius will take 170 years to complete. Due to the extreme mass of the Sagittarius A*, dust and gas clouds move at an astonishing speed of 490 miles per second. However, astronomers do not believe that X7 will complete a complete orbit before it is torn apart by Sgr A *.
