The spacecraft will head to the International Space Station to replace the malfunctioning Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft (CTOnews.com previously reported that its thermal control system experienced a decompression failure on December 15, 2022) and pick up the three astronauts who reside there.

The Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft is expected to complete rendezvous and docking with the International Space Station's Discovery Node Experiment Module at 09:01 Beijing time on February 26, while the Soyuz MS-22 crew was scheduled to return to Earth in March this year, but its return can only be postponed for half a year until September this year due to MS-22 failure.

For this mission, the crew had only one teddy bear strapped to its seat. In addition, the launch of the new spacecraft carried 429 kilograms of cargo, including medical supplies, astronaut supplies, space station cleaning and scientific experimental equipment.

Initially, the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft was scheduled to launch late this spring on a normal crew rotation mission, but it could only be brought forward due to MS-22 failures.

According to reports, the Alliance MS-23 spacecraft was developed by the Energy Rocket Space Group, which carried 429kg of cargo supplies needed by ISS Expedition-68 astronauts, mainly for some experimental materials and equipment. It was the 58th launch of Soyuz 2.1a, the 155th launch of the Soyuz 2 series, the 173rd launch of the Soyuz series manned spacecraft, the 3rd launch of Russia in 2023 and the 26th launch of the global space year.
