Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Feb. 24-Motorola has launched a gadget called Defy Satellite Link that allows any iPhone or Android smartphone to support satellite communications.
The technology was developed by Motorola in cooperation with Bullitt Group and will be demonstrated at MWC 2023 in Barcelona.
According to Motorola officials, Defy Satellite Link can connect to smartphones via Bluetooth and use Bullitt Satellite Messenger apps to provide two-way satellite text messages.
Bullitt said that the information sent by the device is sent through geosynchronous satellites and can easily provide much-needed communications in areas where cellular connections are limited or there are no cellular connections.
Defy Satellite Link weighs only 70 grams and allows users to share their location and contact emergency services when needed. There is a physical SOS distress button and a location report button on the device, which can be used even if the paired smartphone is not nearby.
Motorola Defy Satellite Link is equipped with MediaTek chips and 600mAh batteries that can be used for many days. Other functions include eSIM, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Bluetooth 5.1 and so on.
In addition, Defy Satellite Link supports IP68 dustproof and waterproof, and has passed the Mil-Spec 810H test, ensuring performance during sharp temperature changes as well as resistance to vibration and humidity.
The Motorola Defy Satellite Link will go on sale in April this year for $99 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about RMB684).
Motorola will also launch a package (starting at $149and currently about 1030 yuan) to provide annual subscriptions that allow users to send and receive up to 30 two-way messages and SOS assistance per month.
Bullitt said that fees for sending and receiving satellite messages are charged from subscription plans, and recipients do not have to pay any fees. In addition to Defy Satellite Link, Motorola and Bullitt will also have satellite communications built into Motorola's defy 2 smartphone.
