CTOnews.com, February 24, IDC's latest Quarterly tracking report on China's print Peripheral Market (fourth quarter of 2022) shows that in the fourth quarter of 2022, China's printing peripheral market shipped 6.511 million units, an increase of 31.7 percent over the same period last year. Among them, shipments of inkjet printers were 3.513 million, up 85.1 percent over the same period last year; laser printers were 2.575 million, up 1.7 percent; and needle printers were 422000, down 17.6 percent from the same period last year. In 2022, China's printing peripheral market shipped 19.961 million units, an increase of 8.2% over the same period last year.

This led to the sales of consumer inkjet and consumer laser printers, of which consumer ink cartridge printers increased by 112.6%, ink cartridge printers increased by 71.9%, and consumer laser printers increased by 11.5%.

Short-term stimulation has prompted users to form the habit of "printing at home", which has promoted printers to become household durables in the medium and long term. At present, the occupancy rate of household printers in China is much lower than that in Europe and the United States and other countries, and there is a huge incremental space in China's consumer printer market.

In the commercial market, the A3 format laser digital composite machine market fell 17.4% in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared with the same period last year. On the one hand, some manufacturers adopted more aggressive sales strategies in the third quarter to achieve the growth target of the first half of the fiscal year, resulting in abnormal channel inventory in the fourth quarter. On the other hand, the budgets of government and enterprise users have been reduced, and the size of the market has shrunk. In addition, the product distribution of laser digital composite machine has also changed: first, the market demand for black-and-white speed below 25ppm and above 40ppm shrank, and the demand for 25-35ppm is relatively stable; second, the share of color laser digital composite machine is rising. Although the procurement budget has declined, the color output demand of users is relatively stable, so the shipment volume of color laser digital composite machine is also relatively stable. Starting from the end of 2022, some manufacturers have increased prices to varying degrees, and shifted their strategic focus to the layout of color machines.

The demand for needle printers continues to decline. According to the IDC report, the recovery of enterprise demand and government procurement in 2023 is slow, the electronic transformation of golden tax phase IV and special tickets is accelerated, and the market for needle printers will still show a sharp downward trend. It is expected that government and industry procurement may partially recover by the end of this year.
