CTOnews.com, Feb. 24: in its latest blog post, Mozilla analyzed the 40 most popular apps on Google Play Store and found that there were discrepancies between the privacy descriptions and the actual privacy descriptions of most applications.

Mozilla analyzed the 40 most popular apps, including Twitter, TikTok, Minecraft, Facebook, SnapChat, Gmail, Google Maps and UC browsers.

The report found that nearly 80 per cent of applications actually invoke privacy policies that differ from privacy items disclosed on the Play app page.

Mozilla marked 16 of its 40 apps as "major discrepancies" in its report, indicating a significant difference between actual privacy and official disclosures. 15 apps are marked "needs improvement", indicating that they need to be improved; only 6 apps get a "OK" level.

The 16 "major discrepancies" apps include Twitter, Minecraft, Facebook, SnapChat and Facebook Messenger.

Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, and Instagram, WhatsApp Messenger and Spotify were rated as "in need of improvement".
