Configure the FTP service

Task description

The FTP service in the Windows system is created based on the IIS service, and the FTP service is not installed by default when the Web server role is installed. This task describes how to install and configure the FTP service.

Install the FTP service

If the FTP server has more applications, you can configure a special FTP server and join the domain to set up user authentication with the help of the domain. If the FTP server has fewer applications, it is not necessary to occupy a separate server. If you are maintaining a Web Web site, you can install it with the Web server; if you transfer a small number of files on the network, you can install it with the file server. In the lab environment, the FTP service is still installed and configured on the virtual machine that is the Web server.

The FTP service in the Windows Server 2008 R2 system has been integrated into the Web service in IIS 7.5, so you need to choose to install the FTP server in the Web Server role through the add role Wizard in Server Manager, as shown below:

After the FTP server is installed, it can be configured and managed through the IIS Manager in the Administrative tools.
