In 2021, Ali successively released China's first multi-modal model M6 with more than 10 billion parameters and the language model PLUG, which is known as the "Chinese version of GPT-3". According to the analysis of people in the industry, the research and development of large models with more than 100 billion parameters is not a single algorithm problem, but a systematic project that includes complex technologies such as underlying computing power, network, storage, big data, AI framework, AI model, and so on, which requires the support of super-large-scale intelligent computing infrastructure.

It is understood that Aliyun has built two super computing centers in Zhangbei and Wulanchabu, with a scale of 12 EFLOPS (1200 billion floating-point operations per second) and 3 EFLOPS (30 billion floating-point operations per second) AI computing power, which is larger than Google and Tesla. The intelligent computing center is supported by Feitian Intelligent Computing platform, which can provide congestion-free and high-performance cluster communication capabilities for AI clusters with ten thousand calories, increasing the utilization rate of computing resources by more than 3 times, AI training efficiency by 11 times, and reasoning efficiency by 6 times. From the perspective of past practice, at present, only Ali has the technical strength to support the research and development of large models with over-trillion parameters.
