Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
February 23, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) James Webb Space Telescope recently discovered a group of giant galaxies that "should not exist". These galaxies formed in the early universe are as mature as the Milky way, which may change the human understanding of the universe.
It is reported that scientists used the Weber Space Telescope to observe a group of massive galaxies formed about 500 million to 700 million years after the Big Bang, when the universe was only 3% as old as it is today. But the stars in these galaxies are 10 billion times the mass of the sun, and the stars in one of these galaxies may be 100 billion times the mass of the sun.
In total, scientists have found six similar galaxies that may change our understanding of the origin of galaxies in the universe. Scientists call these galaxies "breakers of the rules of the universe" and they contradict 99% of existing models of the universe.
The mass of stars detected in the new study is 100 times larger than scientists previously thought. Such galaxies, they say, should not have become so big in such a short time after the birth of the universe.
Joel Leja, an assistant professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Pennsylvania State University, models light from these galaxies. "these celestial bodies are much more massive than anyone thought," he said in a statement. "
"We thought we would find only tiny young baby galaxies at this point in time, but we discovered galaxies as mature as our Milky way at the dawn of the universe."
If these galaxies can be further confirmed, it means that mankind's understanding of the evolution of the early universe may be wrong, and galaxies evolve much faster than humans realize. This needs to change the previous model of the universe, or change the human understanding of the origin of galaxies.
"it's the first time we've looked at the early universe and we don't know what we're going to find," Leia said. "it turns out that we have found something unexpected, which actually caused problems for the scientific community and called into question the whole speculation about the formation of early galaxies."
But scientists warn that the distance and age of galaxies means they are not absolutely sure what the target is. They speculate that some may be supermassive black holes, but they also found that six black holes seem unlikely, some of which are likely to be real galaxies.
"even if one of these observational targets is a real galaxy, it will challenge the limits of our understanding of cosmology," said Erica Nelson, an assistant professor of astrophysics at the University of Colorado Boulder and co-author of the new study.
Even other celestial bodies can be shocking, the researchers said. "another possibility is that these are different types of strange objects, such as faint quasars, but they can also be interesting," Nielsen said. "
Weber's new findings can be confirmed by taking spectral images of galaxies and help to better determine how far away they are and what they are made of, allowing scientists to understand what they look like and how big they are.
