CTOnews.com, February 23, the latest Omdia report shows that shipments of OLED display panels are still down 6% year on year in 2022, while shipments of OLED display driver chips (DDIC) are down 5% year on year.

AMOLED DDIC shipments are expected to grow 14% year-on-year to 1.16 billion units in 2023 as demand for smartphones, smartwatches, OLED televisions and portable computers recovers, the report said.

Omdia expects AMOLED penetration to reach 30% of the total display panel in 2029. DDIC shipments will increase from 1 billion in 2022 to 2.2 billion in 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12%.

Among them, smartphones are the largest application market for AMOLED DDIC. Smartphone DDIC shipments accounted for 64 per cent of the AMOLED DDIC market in 2022, according to Omdia. Shipments of AMOLED smartphone DDIC are expected to grow by 12% year-on-year in 2023, thanks to a recovery in demand for AMOLED smartphone display panels.

CTOnews.com learned from the Omdia report that smartwatches are another important area of the AMOLED DDIC market, and DDIC shipments of AMOELD smartwatches are expected to grow 11% to 164 million units in 2023.

Elsewhere, OLED TV DDIC shipments are expected to grow 16% year-on-year to 144 million units in 2023. At the same time, OLED DDIC shipments of tablets and laptops will reach 3700 and 58 million, up 31 per cent and 49 per cent, respectively.
