CTOnews.com February 22 news, single-pedal driving allows electric vehicle drivers to achieve deceleration without using the brake pedal, while the brake energy recovery system can effectively increase the range of electric vehicles, Tesla forced all its models to use this mode, but Porsche believes this method is not efficient, there is a better way.

Porsche said in a recent press release that letting pure electric vehicles coast as much as possible is a more efficient way to drive because it makes full use of the vehicle's kinetic energy.

Porsche's argument is that single-pedal mode has an energy loss when decelerating and accelerating. Therefore, Porsche Engineering believes it is best to let the car continue to coast after the driver removes his foot from the accelerator pedal and increase braking energy recovery only when deceleration is really needed.

CTOnews.com notes that this reiterates Porsche's previous claims. Before the Taycan was launched, its development team had said that for efficiency and drivability reasons, the car did not have a single-pedal mode and its driving characteristics were closer to Porsche's internal combustion engine models.

Porsche insiders also stress that braking energy recovery in single-pedal mode requires first converting kinetic energy into electrical energy, then storing it in the battery, and then converting the stored electrical energy into kinetic energy through the motor when needed, so there will be energy loss in the middle.

Brake energy recovery remains an important part of the Taycan, however, and Porsche claims that the Taycan is still able to recover brake energy in 90% of driving situations.
