CTOnews.com, February 22 (Xinhua)-- Clarkesworld Magazine, a well-known science fiction magazine, announced on Monday that it has decided to close the contribution channel temporarily because it has recently received a large number of user submissions generated by AI.

Neil Clarke, editor of Clarkesworld magazine, said he had recently received a large number of science fiction stories generated by ChatGPT, which surged to more than 500 in February, 100 in January and 25 in October last year.

Large language models (LLM) such as ChatGPT have been trained in millions of books and websites to quickly create original stories. However, they do not work on their own, and humans must guide their output through prompts, and then the AI model will try to do it automatically.

Since 2006, Clarkesworld has published the works of famous science fiction writers and won many Hugo awards. In sci-fi publications, it is known in the industry for its open submission process, usually paying 12 cents per word.

On its submission page, the publication states that "we are not currently considering stories written, co-written or assisted by AI". Although the official website of Clarkesworld clearly no longer accepts contributions generated by AI, there are still a lot of people who contribute for money.

CTOnews.com translated Clarke tweets as follows: "many of the contributions do not come from the SF / F community. Mainly part-time workers think that using ChatGPT can easily make money."
