This is the first time in China to carry out heavy load measurement of this structure type of superconducting cable. In the 54-hour test, the cable has a maximum load current of 1212 A, and the power supply area has been expanded from Ping an Financial Center to about 5 square kilometers in the central Futian area, and the power supply area has been 31 times larger than that of conventional cables, which has periodically verified the ability of three coaxial superconducting cables to supply users with large capacity. According to the Southern Power Grid, in addition to large transmission capacity and low transmission loss, compared with the three-phase discrete cable, the three-coaxial superconducting cable saves half of the superconducting material and more than 1 stroke 3 cable laying space. It is also a superconducting cable with the most compact structure and the most economical land resources, which is equal to five conventional cables of the same voltage grade, replacing the reconstruction and expansion of a substation in the central district of Futian, saving land resources and reducing the cost of project construction. it solves the contradiction between the rapid growth of power load in the central urban area and the difficulty of power grid construction land, and is especially suitable for power supply in high load density areas.

Professor Dai Shaotao of Beijing Jiaotong University pointed out that this test has achieved the desired results and enhanced the confidence of long-term stable and reliable operation behind the superconducting cables. it has also laid a good technical and operational foundation for the subsequent application and promotion of superconducting transmission technology in mega-cities with high load power density such as Shenzhen.
