Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, February 22, CTOnews.com reported that Microsoft recently announced cooperation agreements with Nintendo and Nvidia to release Xbox games and call of Duty (if successful) on Nvidia GeForce Now and Nintendo platforms, valid for up to 10 years. The move is designed to reassure EU antitrust regulators who have issued antitrust warnings about the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.
However, Sony still refuses to sign any agreement with Microsoft that the call of Duty will remain on PlayStation. According to GamesIndustry.biz sources, Microsoft applied to Sony but was rejected, and the two companies have not yet signed any 10-year agreement.
European Union regulators held a closed-door hearing on Microsoft's acquisition of Blizzard in Brussels on Tuesday. After meeting with the European Commission, Brad Smith, president and vice-president of Microsoft, said: "We have not yet reached an agreement with Sony, but I hope we can reach an agreement. If Sony chooses to continue to block this deal, it will reduce competition and slow the development of the market. But they can also choose to sit down with us and finalize a deal."
Microsoft's acquisition of Blizzard has entered a critical period related to the survival of the deal. The US regulator, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), sued Microsoft in December last year, promising to block Microsoft's acquisition, nearly two weeks after the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) released preliminary findings that the deal could hurt British gamers and suggested possible remedies, including forcing Microsoft to sell parts of Activision Blizzard's Activision business related to call of Duty. Judging from the current action schedule, European regulators could finally decide whether to block the deal within four months. The EU aims to complete the review of the Microsoft deal by April 11, a deadline that may be delayed. The UK investigation is scheduled to end by April 26. On the other hand, the American FTC may fall into a longer litigation process after formal prosecution.
