CTOnews.com, February 22 (Xinhua)-- Apple China issued a press release today about many new ways researchers use Apple Watch to explore heart health. These include the use of the Apple Watch to monitor ECG atrial fibrillation in children and adolescents and to measure the heart health of firefighters.

To further promote discoveries that could significantly improve health, Apple has launched a support program for researchers. Through this program, Apple will provide researchers with Apple Watch equipment to help them break new ground in the field of health research, including scientific understanding of the heart.

Part of Apple's press release is attached to CTOnews.com:

In the coming months, Dr. Conyers and her team at the Murdoch Children's Institute will first study the sensitivity of 40 children and adolescents using the Apple Watch mobile electrocardiogram atrial fibrillation warning software. Next, the team will look for ways in which patients can record an EKG anytime, anywhere. Through these insights, the team hopes to better understand the real situation of cardiac side effects and identify potential opportunities for intervention.

Next month, Dr. Cheong of Texas A & M University and Dr. Brian Kim and Marco Perez of Stanford School of Medicine will begin equipping firefighters with Apple Watch to study the effects of wildfire smoke on heart health. The hillfire season in Texas begins in spring and California in summer. Up to 200 firefighters from the two states will participate in the study.

"the Apple Watch is a widely used and reliable wearable consumer device and we think it can be well integrated into our research to help us understand how it can be applied to larger health systems." Dr. Blok said.
