CTOnews.com, February 21, according to the China Railway Construction News, recently, the launching meeting of the Cambodia West Port-Hong Kong, China submarine optical cable project undertaken by the China Railway Construction Port and Navigation Administration was successfully held in the Cambodian Ministry of posts and Telecommunications. The Minister of posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia, Chea Vandeth, presided over the meeting and announced the launch of the project, marking the official launch of the 2715-kilometer submarine optical cable project linking Hong Kong, China to Sihanouk, Cambodia.

▲ Project location Map, China Railway Construction report Cambodia West Port-Hong Kong, China submarine cable project is a relay submarine cable system connecting Hong Kong, China and the port of Sihanouk in Cambodia, including submarine cable lines, signal transmission, remote power supply and operation support, with a total length of about 2715 km, passing through the Hong Kong Special Administrative region, the shallow water area of the South China Sea, the deep water area and the Gulf of Thailand. The preferential loan for foreign aid provided by the Chinese government is used as the source of funding, the contract amount of the project is about 1.16 billion yuan, and the implementing agency is the Ministry of posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia. The construction period is 36 months, which is listed as a priority "two excellent projects". It is also a key project promoted within the framework of cooperation between the Chinese and Cambodian governments.

It is reported that Cambodia currently has only two sea cables in service that provide lower bandwidth, which is still a big gap compared with the world average. After the implementation of the project, it will effectively bridge this gap, further improve Cambodia's national network infrastructure, effectively speed up the construction of Cambodia's digital government, and meet the needs of the development of Cambodia's national information industry. Access to cheap and high-quality Internet services for enterprises and ordinary people, especially in remote areas, is of great significance for Cambodia to promote economic development and transformation, improve the level of social management, and promote employment and productivity development.
