According to GM's latest patent, the company has obtained a new screen design patent that allows the touchscreen to wipe off its fingerprints.

The patent shows that in addition to red, green and blue pixels, the upgraded screen will also introduce an additional purple pixel, similar to ultraviolet light, invisible to the human eye so as not to affect the colors and images seen on the screen. The touch screen will also use a similar invisible photocatalyst screen coating designed to absorb specific wavelengths of light to produce chemical reactions.

GM's patent recommends a metal oxide-based photocatalyst that reacts to ultraviolet radiation in sunlight, but because many cars have window films, the reaction will be triggered by purple pixels.

According to the patent, when the car is idle at night, or when the cleaning function is manually activated by the driver during the day, the purple pixel turns on and activates the photocatalyst in the screen coating to initiate a chemical reaction. use water in the air to decompose organic matter left in fingerprints, as well as oil and grease in fast food, to keep the screen clean.
