On February 20, Amazon AWS announced the launch of two new instances Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) M7g and Amazon EC2 R7g supported by the new generation of self-developed chip Amazon Graviton3, both of which have a performance improvement of up to 25% compared with the previous generation of M6g and R6g. It is the best performance instance in the same series of Amazon EC2 at present. Among them, M7g instances are suitable for general workloads, such as application servers, micro-services, game servers, medium data storage, and cache queues. R7g instances are suitable for memory-intensive workloads such as open source databases, memory caching, and real-time big data analysis.

According to reports, both M7g and R7g instances are equipped with DDR5 memory, which increases the memory bandwidth by 50% compared with previous generations of instances that use DDR4 memory. Both instances are built on top of Amazon Nitro System with a variety of enhanced security features, including memory encryption that is always on, a dedicated cache for each vCPU, and support for pointer authentication (Pointer Authentication). They also support encrypted Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes that protect data at rest on volumes, data that moves between instances and volumes, snapshots created on volumes, and volumes created based on those snapshots. On the network side, these instances are also optimized for EBS, have a dedicated network connection between the instance and the EBS volume, and support enhanced networks.

Currently, M7g and R7g instances are now available in the Amazon Cloud Technology regions of the Eastern United States (Northern Virginia), Eastern United States (Ohio), Western United States (Oregon) and Europe (Ireland) and are available to customers on demand, competitive bidding, reserved instances, and Saving Plan.
