Data released by South Korea show that in January this year, South Korea exported a total of 200825 cars, an increase of 11.3 percent over the same period last year. The value of exported cars was 4.98 billion US dollars, up from 4.09 billion US dollars in the same period last year, and also higher than 4.2 billion US dollars in January 2013. Car exports hit a new high in January.

As for new energy vehicles, a total of 56697 vehicles were exported in January, up 29.8 percent from the same period last year, while exports totaled US $1.79 billion, up 42.3 percent from the same period last year.

Of the new energy vehicles exported by South Korea in January, 27223 were pure electric vehicles, accounting for 13.5 per cent of the cars exported, while 23956 hybrid vehicles accounted for more than 10 per cent.

In addition to exporting complete cars, South Korea also exports auto parts, although exports of auto parts fell 16.2% in January from a year earlier to $1.79 billion.
