Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Xiao Zhan for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, February 20 (Xinhua)-- A Tesla Model S crashed into a fire engine parked on the California interstate on Saturday, killing the driver, seriously injuring one passenger and slightly injuring four firefighters on the engine. At present, the cause of the accident has not been determined.

The fire engine was parked on Interstate 680 to help cover workers at the scene of another accident and was hit by the Model S highway, according to the Associated Press.

Photos at the scene showed that after the impact, the Tesla was completely deformed, the front end of the car was almost flattened, and the $1.4 million fire ladder truck was also seriously damaged.

CTOnews.com learned that the cause of the accident has not yet been determined, it is not clear whether the driver was drunk or whether Tesla turned on the driving assistance function Autopilot at that time.

Tesla accidents often get attention for autopilot, but the company is innocent in most cases. A recent US investigation into a car accident that killed two people in Texas in 2021 confirmed that Tesla's driving assistance function was not responsible.

However, it is worth mentioning that on February 16, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that Tesla will "recall" as many as 362758 cars equipped with fully autonomous driving test software (FSD Beta) or that it has not yet been installed because of concerns that the FSD Beta system may allow vehicles to behave unsafely around intersections, resulting in traffic accidents. In response, Tesla CEO Musk thought that this was just a normal system upgrade, and responded on Twitter, "the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) uses the word 'recall' to describe Tesla's updated data as outdated and completely wrong."
