Southern Power Grid said that this marks a major breakthrough in the research and application of key technologies for the localization of complete pumped storage control system equipment by China Southern Power Grid, successfully promoting the "nationalization" of the pumped storage industry from mainframe equipment to the control system, and effectively enhancing the competitiveness and security of China's pumped storage industry chain supply chain.

The excitation system and governor system in pumped storage power station are the core control systems of pumped storage units, which undertake the regulation tasks of voltage and reactive power, speed and active power respectively, which directly affect the reliability of power generation and the stability of power grid operation.

Prior to this, in February 2021, Nanwang Energy Storage Company launched a "chip-level" independent and controllable technical research on the application of domestic chip excitation and speed control equipment for pumped storage control system equipment, covering various links such as type selection, design, production, acceptance, installation and debugging.

By the end of 2022, the total installed capacity of pumped storage in China has reached 45 million kilowatts, ranking first in the world. CTOnews.com learned from the "medium-and long-term Development Plan of pumped Storage (2021-2035)" issued by the National Energy Administration that the total scale of production will reach about 120 million kilowatts by 2030.
