According to news in the morning of February 20, Beijing time, Amazon reportedly requires employees to work in the office at least three days a week, abolishing the previous policy that senior managers decide on such jobs.

In a memo to employees posted on Amazon's blog, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said the rule would take effect on May 1. Yasi said there would be exceptions, including some sales and customer support work, "but that will be a small part."

Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft now require employees to work in the office at least a few days a week.

Amazon said in October 2021 that managers can decide how often employees need to work in the office. Attendance has been uneven since then, employees say. The headquarters campus in downtown Seattle is sometimes bustling, sometimes like a ghost town. Some employees, especially those with dispersed teams, work in the office a few days a week, while others have barely worked in the office since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. An Amazon spokesman declined to say how many employees were on the job.

Bringing back a large number of employees can boost the development of the business district around Amazon.
