CTOnews.com February 18 news, the Steam client and the Steam Deck handset have now been updated with a new Beta version, bringing a number of new features, such as selecting an account at startup, logging out, and allowing players to transfer downloaded files through the local area network, making it easy for players to transfer games from PC to the handset.

This feature is easy to use. If Steam detects other PC on your local network when you download the game, it will check if there are other PC on your local LAN that can transfer the game content directly to you.

Of course, if the connection is disconnected or there is no more content to transfer, Steam will use its own public content server to download the rest of the content instead. As shown in the following figure:

There are four settings about which combinations of PC + Steam clients can be used for game file transfer. These settings are bidirectional, and outgoing files are automatically enabled if you want to allow files to be transferred over the local network. The default setting is "allow my own device to be transferred in / out", which means you can only transfer content between PC that logs in to Steam using your own account.

Close-no transfer is allowed-the client neither looks for nor allows local file transfers. The client will not download files from other PC on your LAN and will not transfer files out.

Allow in / out of my own device-allows devices logged in with your same Steam account on your local area network to transfer files to and from each other (this is the default).

Allow devices to be transferred in / out of my Steam friends-allow files to be transferred in / out from devices connected to the local area network and logged into your friend's account.

Allow in / out of any user-allow all devices running Steam and connected to your local area network to transfer in / out files.

It is required that all Steam clients or Steam Deck can receive files from another client on the same LAN, but several conditions need to be met for transfer through the local network.

Both Steam clients participating in the transfer must be online and directly visible to each other on the same LAN (as long as one party's Steam client is in offline mode, it cannot be downloaded).

Transfer settings for game files on both devices must be allowed (for example, if both devices are allowed to go in / out of my Steam friend's device, the account on both devices must be Steam friend).

You can transfer game content only if the Steam client that makes the transfer is idle, that is, without downloading or running the game.

The game must be publicly available and can be played by Steam users on both devices (the preloaded game does not meet the conditions).

The game on the PC where the game file is sent must be the latest version.

Only PC running Steam desktop mode can send files. As a result, Steam Deck, PC in large-screen mode, and dedicated initiators are currently unable to transfer files over the local network.

In addition, there are players who find that they have added a new interface when they launch the Steam client, where they will be able to select their own different accounts and then log in. The client main menu also adds a "logout" option to remove the credential information from the local login account (for example, be sure to clear it in the Internet cafe environment).

In the game library interface, a new preload / installation option has been added to overwrite the original game news interface; this content will appear only once when the game is preloaded / released for the first time.

There are other aspects of this update, such as optimizing the performance of the N card using Steam large screen mode, supporting Sony's DualSense Edge handle (including back key mapping), and adding new dynamic icons for Steam cloud load waiting.

Of course, these features are currently only available in the Beta branch, but I believe they will be available to all users soon, and CTOnews.com will remind you at that time.
