According to foreign media reports, the ID.2 will be the first Volkswagen model based on Volkswagen's new MEB-Plus platform, will be equipped with lithium iron phosphate prismatic batteries, will use a more traditional hatchback shape, and is expected to go on sale in 2023.

In terms of price, the ID.2 is expected to start at 22500 euros (currently about 165000 yuan, $23938), which could make it a strong challenger to cheap electric cars in Europe, including Tesla's expected $25000 compact model.

Earlier, there were reports that the company was considering launching a $25000 compact car or hatchback. The $25000 electric car, commonly known as the Model 2, refers to the new electric hatchback that Tesla plans to build at the Shanghai superfactory and export to the world.

In September 2021, it was revealed that Tesla's new $25000 electric car will be named Model Q and will go on sale in 2023.

Although these reports have not been fully confirmed, executives at both Musk and Tesla acknowledge the need for a cheaper model.
