CTOnews.com, February 17 (Xinhua)-- with today's release of iOS / iPadOS 16.4 developer preview version Beta 1, Apple announced a major change in the way it distributes beta versions to developers from now on. Previously, a special description file was required to install iOS beta, but now this process will be tied to the developer's Apple ID.

Starting with iOS 16.4, developers and users will find a special settings menu that allows iPhone or iPad to join Apple developers or Apple beta software programs.

Currently, anyone with the right description file can install developer beta software on iPhone and iPad. With this change, the system will only provide testing options for users who register in the Apple developer program, and users who do not sign up for the program will have no choice but to install public beta software.

Starting with iOS and iPadOS 16.4 Beta, AppleDeveloper Program members will see a new option to enable developer Beta directly from Software updates in Settings. This new option is automatically enabled on devices that have registered programs and updated to the latest beta version. Your iPhone or iPad must log in with the same Apple ID you used when you registered for Apple DeveloperProgram to see this option in the settings. In future iOS and iPadOS versions, this new setting will be the way to enable developer beta, and the configuration description file will no longer grant access.

At present, the public beta description file is not affected, firmware detection and update detection are not affected, and everything in the official version is not affected. I do not know whether there is any impact by downloading firmware line brushes, which has yet to be verified. In addition, only iOS / iPadOS,WatchOS, tvOS and MacOS are not affected at present.
