Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
On Thursday, February 16, Tesla announced that he would recall more than 360000 fully self-driving vehicles in the United States to solve the problem of how his fully autonomous driving system behaves around crossroads and complies with the published speed limit.
On Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Tesla applied for a recall of 362758 U.S. vehicles, all of which were electric vehicles with fully self-driving functions. The recalled vehicles are specific Model S and Model X models from 2016 to 2023, Model 3 from 2017 to 2023, and Model Y from 2020 to 2023, all with fully autonomous driving (FSD) Beta software or waiting to be installed.
Tesla shares fell after the news, closing down 5.7% at $202.04, and the company's shares continued their afternoon decline in after-hours trading.
NHTSA believes that the FSD Beta system may allow vehicles to do unsafe behavior around intersections, such as going straight through intersections in turn-only lanes, entering intersections controlled by stop signs without completely stopping, or entering intersections where it is not advisable to enter, without paying due attention to yellow traffic lights. In addition, the system may not be able to fully respond to changes in the speed limit, or may not fully take into account the driver's adjustment to the speed of the vehicle, resulting in speeding. All these deficiencies may lead to car accidents.
Some media have pointed out that only Tesla owners who have installed advanced FSD driver assistance systems in their cars can join the FSD Beta program. To get FSD Beta, you need to pay $15000 in the United States, or $199 a month for a subscription. In addition, car owners must get a high driver safety score, which is determined by Tesla software, which monitors their driving habits, and maintain it to gain FSD Beta access.
NHTSA said Tesla is expected to solve the problem through wireless software updates free of charge by April 15.
Musk responded on Twitter that NHTSA used the word "recall" to describe Tesla's updated data as "grossly wrong".
Tesla never disclosed how many people have purchased or subscribed to advanced FSD options. In the company's last earnings call, Mr Musk said: so far, we have deployed a fully autopilot Beta version for about 400000 customers in North America for driving on city streets. This is a huge milestone for autopilot because FSD Beta is the only way for any consumer to actually test the latest artificial intelligence autonomy.
The safety recall report issued by NHTSA states that as long as this feature is enabled, the driver is responsible for operating the vehicle and must constantly monitor the function and intervene as necessary (for example, steering, braking or acceleration) to keep the vehicle running safely.
