CTOnews.com February 16, Texas Instruments today announced plans to build a second 12-inch semiconductor wafer fabrication plant in Lehi, Utah. The plant is close to Texas Instruments' existing 12-inch wafer fabrication plant LFAB in the area, and when completed, the two plants will operate as a single wafer fabrication plant. The new factory will produce tens of millions of analog and embedded processing chips every day, which are widely used in all kinds of electronic products in the global market.

The total investment of 11 billion US dollars (currently about 75.35 billion yuan) marks the largest economic investment in the history of Utah. The expansion of the Li Hai manufacturing plant will create about 800 additional Texas Instruments jobs and thousands of indirect jobs. Texas Instruments will strengthen its cooperation with the Alpine School District and will invest $9 million to improve student opportunities and outcomes.

The plant will be designed in accordance with the Energy and Environmental Design Pioneer (LEED) Gold Certification standard, which is one of the criteria for structural efficiency and sustainability in LEED building ratings. The water reuse rate of the new plant is expected to be nearly twice that of Li Hai's existing plant. By adopting advanced 12-inch wafer manufacturing equipment and processes, the new plant will further reduce waste emissions and reduce water and energy consumption.

CTOnews.com has learned that construction of the new plant is expected to begin in the second half of 2023 and start production as early as 2026. The plant will join Texas Instruments' existing 12-inch wafer plants, including Dallas, Texas, DMOS6; 's RFAB1 and RFAB2; in Richardson, Texas, and LFAB in Lehi, Utah. Meanwhile, Texas Instruments is building four 12-inch semiconductor wafer plants in Sherman, Texas.
