CTOnews.com, February 16 (Xinhua)-- Texas Instruments, a semiconductor design and manufacturing company, said on Wednesday local time that it would build a second 300mm semiconductor wafer fabrication plant in Leahy, Utah, as part of its $11 billion investment in Utah (currently about 75.35 billion yuan), according to MarketWatch.

When completed, the second Texas Instruments plant will be merged with the existing plant and will eventually operate as a factory. The new fab will create about 800 additional jobs for Texas Instruments and thousands of indirect jobs.

CTOnews.com reported in January that Texas Instruments announced that its board of directors had appointed Haviv Ilan as its next president and CEO, effective April 1.

Referring to the construction of a second fab in Utah, Haviv Ilan said that with the expected growth of semiconductors in electronics, especially in industry and automobiles, and the passage of the US Chip and Science Act, now is the best time to invest further in in-house manufacturing capacity.
