CTOnews.com, February 16 (Xinhua)-- market research firm Counterpoint pointed out in its latest report that the domestic smartphone market got off to a good start in 2023, with Apple's iPhone sales up 6% year-on-year before and after the Spring Festival.

Smartphone sales did not increase much year-on-year in the first five weeks of the Chinese Lunar New year, but this is good news.

At the beginning of 2023, sales grew rapidly week by week, reaching more than 7 million units the week before the Spring Festival. In the five weeks before and after the Spring Festival, sales remained above 6 million for four weeks.

The average weekly sales are 6.7 million, well above the average of 5.5 million in 2022.

January sales were the same as the same month last year, the highest in 2022, with an increase of more than 40% month-on-month.

There is no significant change in mobile phone sales in the two weeks before and after the Spring Festival.

Sales of mobile phones were not good in October, November and December of 2022, which are usually the best selling months in the country. But this is not expected to happen again in 2023.

The release of more new products reflects a return to business mindset, but caution is still needed.

Apple remains the largest OEM in China in terms of sales share in January, with sales up about 6 per cent year-on-year, according to preliminary data from Counterpoint Market Pulse Service. The major Android OEM will continue to launch new models in the first quarter of 2023, but OEM and its dealers remain cautious about inventory.
