Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, February 16 (Xinhua)-- Microsoft's new hint and sources familiar with the company's internal plans, File Explorer will get a major update on Windows 11 later this year, according to Windowslatest. This will be the company's first major effort to "modernize" the document manager, align it with the design of Windows 11 and further integrate it with Microsoft 365.
Earlier today, Microsoft held an hour-long WinUI community conference call (a virtual meeting to discuss developer-related issues) and quietly confirmed that it was making a major update to the file manager and moving it to Win App SDK, which could lead to many new possibilities, including better WinUI 3 integration, access to the new API, and so on.
Windows App SDK is not a new framework, nor is it a replacement for existing Windows application types, such as .NET (including Windows Forms and WPF) and desktop Win32 with C++. Nor will it rewrite the file manager in a new language. Instead, it is more like a library that supports standard API and WinUI 3.
In short, this makes it easier for File Explorer to use the capabilities of WinUI 3, allowing it to make major design changes at some point in the future. However, there are concerns that Windows App SDK may make file browsers more flawed. XAML and similar modern components are observed to be slower than traditional Win32 UI.
The new file explorer will be A / B tested with users, with a pizza icon to distinguish it from the current explorer. The new Windows App SDK-based file explorer will be rolled out to Windows Insider Program users in the coming weeks. As mentioned earlier, Microsoft did not rewrite the file explorer, so there will be no major changes initially. However, when users use the Windows App SDK version of Explorer, they will notice a "pizza" icon on the toolbar.
Microsoft confirmed that there will be a "major update" to File Explorer during an hour-long conference call with developers. Although the exact nature of these "big changes" was not disclosed, the Microsoft design team said they were working closely with key file explorer developers to take full advantage of the update.
It is worth noting that applications like Phone Link and PowerToys are also built around Microsoft's WinAppSDK.
According to the source, File Explorer will have a new home page that integrates the local file manager experience with Microsoft 365.
The new design of File Explorer leaks it is not known when these changes will be introduced to testers, but it should not be soon.
