CTOnews.com, February 15 (Xinhua) Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman's board membership was not on the agenda at Samsung's recent board meeting on Tuesday. Lee Jae-yong, executive chairman and president of Samsung Electronics, joined the company's board in 2016 but left in October 2019 when he faced bribery charges related to former South Korean President Park Geun-hye.

Samsung's board of directors held a meeting this week to set a date for this year's shareholder meeting. According to the company statement, the board of directors will discuss three issues at the upcoming meeting.

The three issues relate to the company's financial statements, setting caps on executive pay and the appointment of vice-chairman Han Jong-hee as an internal executive. However, Lee Jae-yong's rejoining the board is not on the agenda. Despite recent speculation that Mr Lee may soon rejoin the board as a symbol of more management responsibility, these recent reports suggest that the executive chairman may not become a member of the company's board this year.

The de facto leader was also left out at a meeting at the end of last year, when CEO from different subsidiaries of Samsung discussed the recession, falling semiconductor prices and the best course of action into 2023.

Mr Lee has made a number of business trips in recent months, met with senior officials and executives and strengthened Samsung's overseas ties, CTOnews.com has learned. His most recent 10-day business trip included visits to Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam to identify the next driver of sustainable growth for Samsung "in the coming decades".

Last year, Mr. Lee also met with the head of BMW at the BMW driving center on Yongzong Island to discuss cooperation on electric car batteries. The de facto leader also made his first business trip as chairman to the UAE, where he attended a private forum hosted by UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
