CTOnews.com February 15 news, Nokia Bell and China Unicom today announced the expansion of cooperation. China Unicom will test the Nokia Berdo access gateway, combining wired and fixed wireless access, so that China Unicom can provide Chinese customers with an economical, reliable and seamless broadband experience.

Nokia Bell said the test was the first time the 5G fixed wireless access solution had been tested in the Chinese market.

This is the first such test in the Chinese market. By seamlessly integrating fixed and mobile networks, China Unicom will be able to expand network bandwidth and provide more broadband services to customers through its 5G network in the future.

Nokia Bell said its multiple access gateway scheme would enable China Unicom to access fixed wireless and wired broadband services within the coverage of its existing broadband network gateway (BNG), thereby minimizing time to market and optimizing network synergies.

BNG is based on Nokia Bell's 7750 SR Services Router and is supported by the FP network processor and the Services Router operating system (SR OS). CTOnews.com learned that the solution can provide better performance, scale, and versatility in handling large amounts of traffic from 5G user devices.
