Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Hey, everybody yell! This is CTOnews.com. I'm Lang GE.
Yesterday, when Langge was fishing for a topic on our CTOnews.com website, I saw this piece of news: Microsoft has permanently disabled Internet Explorer 11 desktop browser.
To put it simply, Microsoft released a Microsoft Edge update yesterday that permanently banned some Win10 from using IE 11 browsers. This is also the first time that Microsoft has banned its own browser service through technical means.
With this update, Microsoft will automatically redirect all remaining devices that have not been redirected from IE11 to Microsoft Edge, and IE11 is no longer available on these devices.
In other words, only Edge can be used in Microsoft's browser in the future, and IE has been swept into the dustbin of history.
Microsoft actually announced that it would stop technical support for IE browsers as early as last June, and this permanent ban patch is equivalent to putting the last nail in IE's coffin.
As a cross-era browser, IE seems to be second to none in the history of software. Almost everyone who has used PC has heard of IE.
But existence is one thing, word-of-mouth is another. Since Chrome became popular, IE browsers have been criticized by the public and website programmers: poor compatibility, slow updates, and outdated technology.
When IE becomes the dust of history, looking back on the past, there may be old surfers who miss its youthful beauty more than 20 years ago. If IE is compared to a person, then its experience is undoubtedly full, tried, glorious, declined, and even died.
Next, Lang GE will lead you to reflect on its legendary life:
IE1 (launch time: 1995) keywords: the predecessor of IE was actually a licensed product of Spyglass technology, which was the ancestor of the early image browser field.
At that time, Microsoft's main purpose of launching IE was to launch its competitor Netscape, whose Navigator browser dominated the market at that time.
In order to be able to compete head-on with its competitors, Microsoft directly gave up developing its own browser and chose to take the technology OEM route and get the license directly from Spyglass. After a magic change, it made its debut as Internet Explorer, which is why IE7 needed Spyglass authorization before.
During this period, IE and Windows systems were launched separately and were active in the browser market as independent software.
IE2 (launch time: 1995) keywords: imitation in November of the same year, IE2 was born, and compared with IE1, IE2 is almost no different from its previous generation. However, during the period of barbaric growth, Don't overextend is the king, and whoever is a cow will closely imitate others.
At this time, the goal of IE is still Netscape, which accounted for nearly 90% of the browser market at that time, and Microsoft's strategy is simple: "I have to have what you have, and I want to have what you don't have."
In addition to learning from Netscape's housekeeping skills, but also incorporating its standards into IE2, IE creatively launched the function of collecting web pages and began to support some of the standard protocols in HTML. In addition, IE2 is the first browser to be compatible with Apple's MacOS.
IE3 (launch time 1996) keywords: in August of this year, IE3 was launched, with the precipitation of the first generation and the second generation of Don't overextend, when IE3 was launched, old rival Netscape found that Microsoft was not going to compete with him, which was obviously going to kill it.
Because IE3 is the first to introduce CSS technology into commercial operation, it also introduces ActiveX controls, JavaApplet, content selection platform into browsers, and prospectively bundles its own mail system Internet Mail and News, windows address book, web conferencing and other content together.
This generation of IE has gained momentum over Netscape browsers, and IE3 has begun to bundle with Microsoft's blockbuster product, Win95.
Overall, after iterating through three versions, IE has been gradually accepted by the market and users.
IE4 (launch time 1997) keywords: plunder IE4 continues the successful strategy of the accumulation of IE3 technology, this generation introduces Outlook Express 4 into it, and also supports DHTML, Favicon and other technologies, the most famous is the Active Desktop that makes ancient netizens love and hate.
One of the major innovations of Active Desktop is that it integrates desktop resources, but there is also a huge drawback: it takes up a huge amount of PC resources, often causing machines to get stuck, and users have no choice but to restart.
However, this does not affect the commercial success of IE4, the IE4 bundling strategy continues to work in Win, its market share has risen to 60%, Netscape is in decline, and its collapse is certain.
IE5 (launch time 1999) keywords: at that time, IE5 had reached the peak of the browser, and its market share once reached 80%, which can be described as seeking defeat alone.
This generation of IE is very forward-looking, supporting the XML architecture and the predecessor of AJAX, XMLHttpRequestAPI and HTA. The former two lead the general direction of browser development and leave a strong ink in the history of science and technology.
IE6 (launch time 2001) keywords: bad IE6 is bundled with XP to launch a browser with strong compatibility with the operating system, Win98, ME, 2000, Win2003 can all run. This generation of upgrades do not bring many new features, mainly to strengthen CSS and enhance the compatibility of other standards.
What is impressive about this generation is the huge number of security loopholes.
How many loopholes are there? It directly alarmed the computer security response team of FBI in the United States, and the relevant government departments also issued a special report for IE6, which clearly criticized the integration of Windows and IE, and even many experts suggested that "if you want your system security, don't use IE6 anymore."
However, at this time, Microsoft did not rush to launch a version update, but just lay flat. Maybe there are too many Bug to be repaired.
Until IE7, IE6 had hardly been updated in five years. Of course, Microsoft also had proud capital. At that time, the browser market share of the IE family had reached an unprecedented 95%, and its monopoly position was unbeatable.
At this time, other browsers also began to brew an antitrust war, and the crisis of the IE empire was initially revealed.
IE7 (launch time 2006) keywords: trough IE7 was launched five years after IE6, after the U.S. Supreme Court's antitrust decision on Microsoft made it impossible for IE to appear under the name Microsoft and replaced it with "Windows Internet Explorer".
Due to the constant erosion of market share by Firefox, Microsoft began to dilute the adhesion between Windows and browsers, strengthened security vulnerability management, and enhanced many practical functions, such as RSS Reader, page paging and multi-engine search.
But even so, the web standard that IE7 can support is slightly inferior to other excellent browsers of its generation, and its market share has fallen to only 17% from nearly 90% five years ago, which is also the trough of IE market share in previous generations.
IE8 (launch time 2009) keywords: Rebirth IE8 and Win7 launched together, this version of the improvement is far greater than the previous two generations of products, RSS, AJAX, CSS have also been enhanced, but also began to give developers new tools such as recommended websites, accelerators and so on.
At the same time, thanks to the success of Win7, its share once surpassed that of Firefox.
But it seems to be too late for this improvement, and his two competitors, Firefox and Chrome, are still ahead of IE8 in support of the latest standards.
IE9 (launch time 2011) keywords: change IE9 has made adjustments in the interactive interface, actively embracing future technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, XHTML, and also made things that make people shine, such as better privacy protection, ability to allow geographic location sharing, APU technology optimization, better graphics card compatibility, and so on.
In addition, IE9 is a stand-alone product that didn't come out with the operating system, and even Microsoft stepped up its publicity, placing ads on social media and television in an attempt to get IE back to the top.
But Firefox and Google certainly won't give Microsoft a chance to IE volumes, and they also start to roll. Because Firefox and Chrome have a much better reputation than IE, and users' stereotypes still exist in the past, IE9 eventually gained a better reputation and technically caught up with Firefox and Chrome, but its market share was still much lower than expected.
IE10 (launch time 2012) keywords: two faces IE10 is exclusive to Win8, is the new version of Microsoft embracing Mobile interaction.
But IE10 has two faces, a touch version and a traditional version.
Touch screen version of Microsoft called Metro style, suitable for touch screen devices, good interaction, but abandoned the plug-in function.
The other is the PC version, which allows plug-ins, interface and touch screen version without much difference. In addition, IE10 also embeds Flash, and the touchable version is mostly used for portable devices. Flash plug-ins will seriously affect the battery life of touch screen lightweight devices (tablets, two-in-one notebooks, etc.), so some functions have been castrated in this version.
IE11 (launch time 2013) keywords: doomsday Dance this generation of products has increased browsing speed by 10% compared with the previous generation, improved the embarrassment that the previous generation of mobile tiles can not be moved, the permanent fixed tag has returned, and it is easier to switch between normal mode and full-screen mode.
In addition, it also began to support the WebGL3D graphics rendering standard, but also unlocked the number of label pages, not limited to up to 10.
In 2018, Microsoft launched Edge, a browser based on Google's Chromium code base, and they completely abandoned the core of IE.
Today, IE browsers have really become the dust of history, and there is no IE in the world anymore.
Will you still miss it?
