CTOnews.com, February 15, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily, the demand for downstream electronic products is sluggish, and the upstream supply chain is also affected. Most of the industry expects things to improve in the second half of this year compared with the first half of this year after inventory deregulation and adjustment for some time.

From the perspective of the overall silicon wafer market, long-term contract prices have not been loosened at present, but there have been many cases of long-term customers delaying delivery, some of which are deferred for the first quarter, and some directly postponing part of the first half of this year to the second half of this year. The deferred product range includes 8-inch and 12-inch wafers.

In terms of spot prices, the prices of less than 6-inch silicon wafers with the weakest demand have been revised; there are also a small number of 8-inch silicon wafers whose quotations have been slightly revised down; and some customers have asked silicon wafer factories for 12-inch silicon wafer quotations that should also be adjusted and are in the negotiation stage.

Taiwan media pointed out that silicon wafer manufacturers look forward to a smooth recovery of market conditions in the second half of the year, and long-term customers will make up for what they did not pull in the first half of the year, so that the volume of goods pulled for the whole year will remain unchanged.

According to the statistics of the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI), the global semiconductor wafer shipping area and total revenue reached a new high in 2022.

CTOnews.com learned that SEMI had previously said that the global shipment area of semiconductor silicon wafers in 2022 was 14.713 billion square inches, an increase of 3.9 per cent over 2021; total revenue of silicon wafers was $13.8 billion (currently about 94.254 billion yuan), up 9.5 per cent from the same period last year.
