CTOnews.com, February 15, Canonical today officially launched the enterprise real-time Ubuntu kernel (Real-Time Kernel) for Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, providing end-to-end security for enterprises and enhancing the reliability of workloads.

Designed for aerospace, automotive, defense, Internet of things, robotics and telecommunications companies, as well as public sector and retail enterprises, the real-time Ubuntu kernel promises to reduce application latency and improve performance by reducing the kernel's most demanding and critical workloads.

CTOnews.com learned that the real-time Ubuntu kernel is based on the Linux 5.15 LTS kernel that has long been supported in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish) and can be used in x86x64 and ARM architectures. The kernel integrates out-of-tree PREEMPT_RT patches to make it a higher level than the mainline Linux kernel by using real-time scheduling classes that have a higher priority than the CFS scheduler.

Canonical says the real-time Ubuntu kernel is designed to meet the needs of the 5G transformation of telecom networks, but it is also an ideal choice for companies from industrial PC to HMI (man-machine interface) that want to accelerate their technology.
