Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen xiaocluoyuzi for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, February 14, February 14, the second phase of the "China compound Eye" led by Beijing Institute of Technology-the large-scale distributed aperture deep space exploration radar project was held in Yunyang County, Chongqing City.
The "China compound Eye" project, led by Beijing Institute of Technology, plans to build the world's farthest radar in Chongqing to meet the major needs of countries such as near-Earth asteroid defense and space situational awareness through high-resolution observation of deep space targets such as asteroids, spacecraft, moon, Earth-like planets and Jupiter Galileo satellites, and to provide support for world cutting-edge scientific research such as Earth's livability and planetary formation. It is of great significance for China to build a community with a shared future for mankind, build a space power and maintain national security.
▲ "China compound Eye" project second phase deployment effect picture, Tu Yuan Beijing Institute of Technology this time starts the construction of the "large-scale distributed aperture deep space exploration radar project", as the "China compound Eye" second phase project, will land on Zhongzhou Island, Longjiao Town, Yunyang County, Chongqing, covering a total area of more than 300mu, 25 30-meter aperture radars will be built to detect and image asteroids tens of millions of kilometers away. To provide important support for China's near-Earth asteroid impact defense and planetary scientific research, the project is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
As previously reported by CTOnews.com, the construction of the "China compound Eye" project is divided into three phases. The first phase of the "distributed Radar Astroimaging instrument Verification Test ground", located in Mingyue Mountain, Liangjiang New District, Chongqing, consists of four 16-meter aperture radars, was completed in December 2022. When it was started and running, it successfully captured China's first three-dimensional radar image of the lunar crater foundation.
Beijing Institute of Technology said that after the completion of the second phase of the project, the third phase of the China compound Eye project plans to expand the number of radar units to 100 units. With the continuous progress of the construction of "Chinese compound Eye", it will not only greatly expand the boundary of human radar deep space exploration, but also enable China to maintain the world's leading position in the field of deep space exploration radar for a long time.
