(FiberHome for short) under the group adopts special materials and technology and is specially designed to tailor the converter valve special optical cable for the Baihetan power transmission project:

The optical cable is prefabricated at both ends in the factory, and it is quickly and reliably connected to the customer side equipment through connectors at the project site, and the construction personnel can carry out blind plug-in operation to achieve plug-and-play. According to the statistics of the construction unit of the project, the connection time of each core joint in the project is shortened from 60 seconds to 20 seconds, saving about 60% of the construction cost as a whole.

According to reports, the key and core of UHVDC transmission technology lies in the converter valve control system in each converter station. The special optical cable connecting the converter valve power module and the power grid dispatching control room can realize the signal transmission between them and is an important part of the control system. Prior to this, this kind of optical cable has been monopolized by foreign optical cable giants for a long time because of its raw materials and process technology.

In 2013, FiberHome set up a special technical team to begin the R & D and manufacturing of converter valve special optical cable technology, technology, materials, etc., breaking through the blockade of foreign patents, after 10 years of technology and engineering accumulation, it has successively provided special optical cable for converter valve for national demonstration projects such as 220 kV Zhoushan Project and 500 kV Guangdong Dawan District back-to-back Project. The product provided for Baihetan Power Transmission Project is the first application of domestic converter valve special optical cable technology in UHV projects of 800kV and above, breaking the monopoly of foreign giants on the supply of UHV projects of 800kV and above.

According to CTOnews.com inquiry, the Baihetan-Jiangsu ±800kV HVDC project has a rated voltage of ±800kV and a rated transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts with a total investment of 30.7 billion yuan. It was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in November 2020. Construction started in December of the same year and was completed and put into production in July 2022. It can transmit more than 30 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity every year, which is equivalent to reducing raw coal consumption by 14 million tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 25 million tons.
