CTOnews.com, February 14, according to Strategy Analytics data, 5G smartphone shipments are close to 700 million in 2022. 5G continues to grow, but the growth rate will stagnate because it has become the de facto cellular technology in high-end smartphones.

According to the report, Apple is still the leading 5G device maker, while Samsung is the fastest growing major manufacturer in the world and is catching up with Apple.

Global smartphone shipments fell 11.3% to 1.21 billion units in 2022 from a year earlier, the lowest annual shipments since 2013, according to IDC. Shipments fell 18.3 per cent year-on-year to 3.003 billion units in the fourth quarter, the biggest single-quarter decline on record.

In the domestic market, China's smartphone market shipped about 286 million units in 2022, down 13.2% from the same period last year. CTOnews.com learned that about 72.92 million smartphones were shipped in the Chinese smartphone market in the fourth quarter, down 12.6% from a year earlier.
