Liu Yafang, deputy director of the Energy Saving and Technology and equipment Department of the National Energy Administration, said that by the end of 2022, lithium-ion batteries accounted for 94.5%, compressed air 2.0%, liquid flow batteries 1.6%, lead-acid (carbon) batteries 1.7%, and other technical routes 0.2%.

According to reports, from the proportion of newly installed technology in 2022, lithium-ion battery energy storage technology accounted for 94.2%, still in an absolutely dominant position, with compressed air energy storage technology and liquid flow battery energy storage technology accounting for 3.4% and 2.3%, respectively, with a significantly faster growth rate. In addition, flywheel, gravity, sodium ion and other energy storage technologies have also entered the engineering demonstration stage.

In terms of the installed scale of the new energy storage, CTOnews.com learned from the data released by the National Energy Administration that by the end of 2022, the installed scale of new energy storage projects has reached 8.7 million kilowatts, with an average energy storage time of about 2.1 hours, an increase of more than 110% over the end of 2021.

In terms of provinces, by the end of 2022, the top five provinces with cumulative installed capacity are: Shandong 1.55 million kilowatts, Ningxia 900,000 kilowatts, Guangdong 710,000 kilowatts, Hunan 630000 kilowatts, Inner Mongolia 590,000 kilowatts. The top five provinces with new installed capacity in 2022 are: Ningxia 890000 kilowatts, Shandong 890000 kilowatts, Hubei 530000 kilowatts, Hunan 500000 kilowatts, Inner Mongolia 330,000 kilowatts.
