According to CTOnews.com news on February 13, financial data show that Apple's MacBook contract manufacturer earned NT $90.071 billion (currently about 20.266 billion yuan) in January 2023, down 15.3% from the previous month and 10.6% from the same period last year.

Quanta said it shipped 3.1 million laptops in January, down 27.9 per cent from 4.3 million in December 2022. In addition, the first quarter is a traditional seasonal off-season, and laptop shipments will decline compared with the fourth quarter of last year.

The industry estimates that shipments of notebook computer manufacturers usually decreased by 15% to 20% in the first quarter compared with the previous quarter. Quanta, due to the relatively high proportion of consumer notebook computers, is expected to drop by about 20% quarter-on-quarter.

By contrast, Quanta's revenue in 2022 was NT $1.28 trillion (currently about 288 billion yuan), up 13.47 per cent from a year earlier. CTOnews.com learned that its December revenue was NT $106.329 billion (currently about RMB 23.924 billion), down 5.1 per cent from the previous month and 14.8 per cent from a year earlier.

Looking forward to the current quarter, Quanta previously said that the first quarter was a traditional off-season, coupled with a small number of working days, according to past practice, the average shipments in the first quarter decreased by double digits. Due to the high base period in the first quarter of last year, notebook shipments are also expected to decrease in this quarter compared with the same period last year.
