Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Feb. 11, last month, the Wall Street Journal said that Activision Blizzard's controversial CEO Bobby Kotick was expected to be fired if Activision Blizzard were acquired, but the final outcome remains uncertain. Today, Fox Business revealed that Kotick "will definitely continue to serve as CEO", even if negotiations with Microsoft break down.
It is said that if regulators sabotage the acquisition, Kotick "will definitely stay at the gaming giant and run the company," according to "sources familiar with the situation."
Despite previous reports that Kotick is expected to leave Activision Blizzard after the deal is completed, the company claimed in a report to shareholders in April 2022 that Kotick had not discussed his plans before the acquisition announcement and had not done so since.
"prior to the approval and execution of the merger Agreement and its proposed transaction, there was no discussion or negotiation with Microsoft on the post-transaction employment arrangement between Microsoft and Mr. Kotick, or after the approval and execution until the date of signing of this Agreement."
It is worth mentioning that if he is fired after being acquired by Microsoft, Kotick could get hundreds of millions of dollars.
In fact, Kotick has been under fire since a report in the Wall Street Journal in November 2021 that he was clearly aware of multiple allegations of sexual misconduct by Activision Blizzard and created a toxic workplace culture at the company.
CTOnews.com reported that before Microsoft announced plans to buy Activision Blizzard, about 1900 employees (a total of 10, 000 employees) signed a petition asking Kotick to leave the company. At the time, it was reported that Kotick had promised to resign if he could not "quickly resolve" the company's cultural problems.
Kotick has been silent since Microsoft announced its acquisition plans, but earlier this week he warned the Competition and Market Authority that blocking the deal would deal a severe blow to Britain's goal of becoming a technology superpower, before accusing Sony of "trying to sabotage" Microsoft's acquisition in an interview with the Financial Times, saying SIE chief executive Jim Ryan had "stopped talking" with the two companies.
