CTOnews.com, February 11, many stakeholders have been actively promoting Flang as the Fortran language front end of the LLVM compiler stack in recent years. ARM said that although Flang has made significant progress recently, it is still not ready for official release.

ARM engineer Kiran Chandramohan introduced the latest developments in LLVM Fortran compiler options at the FOSDEM conference in Brussels last weekend.

Flang can generate available executables, but is not yet ready for official release. Fortran 95 support is basically in place, and the team is currently promoting Fortran 2003 and newer features, continuing to test a variety of Fortran software in the process.

Judging from the data of SPEC 2017, the performance of Flang looks pretty good compared to the previous Flang implementation and the GFortran front end provided by GCC.

The video recording of the Kiran demonstration has not been uploaded. Interested CTOnews.com users can visit the FOSDEM 2023 demo [PDF] for more information.
