1 the first stage of installation

It is relatively simple to deploy vCenter Server Appliance 6.7 in VMware Workstation, as long as the ISO file of vcsa 6.7 is loaded with a virtual optical drive and the OVA file is imported. The main steps are described below. (this section takes VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-14367737.iso as an example.)

(1) use the virtual optical drive to load VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-14367737.iso, browse to expand the VCSA folder, you can see the OVA file of vCenter Server Appliance. As shown in figure 1.

(2) in VMware Workstation, click the "File" menu and select the "Open" command. In the "Open" dialog box, browse to the vCenter Server Appliance folder of the virtual optical drive loaded in step (1) and select the OVA file. As shown in figure 2.

(3) in the Import Virtual Machine dialog box, pop up the VMware vCenter Server license agreement and accept the license agreement.

(4) set the name of the new virtual machine (vcsa-80.5 in this example), and click Browse to select the storage path for the new virtual machine, as shown in figure 3.

(5) in the deployment options dialog box, select "Tiny vCenter Server With Embedded PSC", as shown in figure 4.

(6) in the "Properties" dialog box, in the "Networking Configuration" option, enter ipv4; in the "Host Network IP Address Family" text box, enter static; in the "Host Network Mode" text box, enter the IP address of the current vCenter Server to be deployed in "Host Network IP Address", this example is 192.168.80.80; enter the number of subnet mask bits in "Host Network Prefix", here it is 24 (for 255.255.255.0) Enter the gateway in "Host Network Default Gateway", the current example is 192.168.80.2, enter the DNS name in the "Host Network DNS Servers" text box, this example is 192.168.80.2, enter 192.168.80.80 in "Host Network Identtity", as shown in figure 8-3-15.

(7) Click the "SSO Configuration" tab to set the SSO account (default is administrator@vsphere.local) password, where you need to set complex passwords (uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, non-numeric characters, length more than 6 characters);) Click the "System Configuration" tab to set the root account password. Then click the Import button to start importing vcsa. As shown in figures 6 and 7.

(8) after importing the virtual machine, the vcsa virtual machine starts automatically, modifies the virtual machine configuration, and changes the network card from the default "bridge" to "NAT", as shown in figure 8.

(9) then wait patiently, and the set management address appears directly in the console of VMware Workstation, as shown in figure 10.

(10) in the virtual machine console, press F2 to enter the network configuration → DNS configuration, and change the host name from the default photon-machine to 192.168.80.80 (the address where VCSA is installed in this example), as shown in figures 11 and 12.

If you have DNS in your network, configure the DNS address and enter the domain name. For example, in my network, the address of DNS is 172.18.96.1 and the domain name is heinfo.edu.cn. I can create an A record named vcsa and resolve it to 192.168.80.80. At this point, I can enter vcsa.heinfo.edu.cn.

(11) Save and exit after modifying the hostname, as shown in figure 13.

2 second stage installation

Then begin the second phase of the installation.

(1) when you open the IE browser and enter https://192.168.80.80:5480, you will first let you enter the password (the root password set in figure 7), the system configuration interface will be displayed, and click "Settings", as shown in figure 14.

(2) in device configuration, confirm that the system name is the IP address or name set in figure 12, as shown in figure 15.

(3) specify the domain name as vsphere.local in the SSO configuration and set the SSO password, as shown in figure 16.

(4) confirm the vCenter Server Appliance information in the "ready to complete" dialog box, as shown in figure 17.

(5) after the vCenter Server system is started, the configuration is complete, as shown in figure 18.

(6) after installation, you can enter the vCenter Server interface, as shown in figure 19.
