CTOnews.com, February 10, according to the DCSS Research Institute, although the FPD market continues to face difficult market conditions, car panels will continue to grow in 2023, with total shipments (LCD+OLED) expected to exceed 200 million panels, which means that each car will have more than two panels on average.

In the field of on-board display, OLED shipments are still small compared with mainstream LCD. But OLED is gradually infiltrating into the application of high-end flagship models of traditional cars and new energy vehicles. Although the reliability, brightness and lifetime of OLED are challenged compared with LCD, these challenges are gradually being overcome by using flexible and series structures. The 12-to 14-inch rigid OLED costs more than twice as much as the LCD, while the flexible type costs even more.

Tu Yuan Pexels vehicle display OLED market is currently dominated by South Korea's LG display (LGD) and Samsung display (SDC). JOLED is entering the market as its IJP OLED. European brands that emphasize design prefer to use some of the technologies of flexible OLED, and carmakers in other regions are following this trend.

LGD is currently ahead of SDC's relatively large-scale panel factory in flexible vehicle display shipments, and they are planning to increase the production of hybrid screens with a structure similar to the OLED Apple plans to use in its IT app.

SDC initially passively produced for in-car display applications, but is now trying to increase A2's share of in-vehicle application capacity to increase orders. A2, which is mainly rigid OLED capacity, has been looking for other applications to fill due to the loss of most smartphone orders.

Among the OLED panel manufacturers in China, BOE has been supplying flexible OLED panels to different automakers since 2022. In addition to BYD, which has large shipments, it also provides OLED panels to ideal, SAIC, Xilai and other automakers.

LCD, which competes with OLED, is moving forward with the adoption of MiniLED. MiniLED vehicle display allows frameless design and is more energy-efficient. In 2023, we will see a variety of MiniLED display applications in vehicle display, mainly from panel factories in Taiwan, which will compete with OLED in the future. In addition to the current MiniLED design, the next development of MicroLED in the on-board display will determine the future of the panel factory. In the recent planning of Youda, it has been shown that a small number of MicroLED will be used in the on-board display between 2025 and 2026.
